PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The School Administrator is the administrative and instructional leader of his/her school.  By use of leadership, supervision, and administrative skills they manage the assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  Education/Certification/Experience:

Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership

Three years’ experience as a classroom teacher

Five years’ experience in instructional/ administrative leadership

Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (TTESS) appraiser

 

  Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of curriculum and instruction and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Working knowledge to manage budget and personnel
  • Working knowledge to implement state and district policies & rules
  • Working knowledge of funding and budgets
  • Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Good at negotiations, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Ability to interpret data

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Management

  1. Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
  2. Regularly consult the campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education Include students and community representatives when appropriate.

School Organization Morale

  1. Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional
  2. Foster collegiality and team building among staff Encourage their active involvement in decision- making process.
  3. Provide for two-way communication with superintendent, staff, students, parents, and

School or Organization Improvement

  3. Develop and set annual campus performance objectives for each of the Academic Excellence Indicators using the campus planning process and site-based decision making
  4. Develop, maintain, and use information systems and records information necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives addressing each Academic Excellence

Personnel Management

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teachers, counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Light to moderate lifting is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

This position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and staff, and enduring irregular or extended work hours.

The demands of extended work days (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.) requires a high level of physical endurance. This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.  The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day and the location of the activity.
