PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Manage the Campus Family & Community Resource Center and have various responsibilities within the center, including planning, developing, and implementing programs for parents and family engagement.

 

The Parent & Family Engagement Liaison must spend 85% of their day fulfilling the responsibilities defined in the job description.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

    Education/Certification:

 

High School diploma or GED

 

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

Bilingual English and Spanish preferred

People oriented; ability to work with different personalities, professionals, and parents

Must be able to keep a flexible work schedule to conduct campus and district events

 

    Experience:

 

Experience working in an educational environment preferred

Experience in communicating and disseminating information to adults

Experience in participating and/or organizing community outreach events & services

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (Duties described in job description are performed through Title I 100% of the time)

 

  1. Follows rules and regulations under Public Law 114-95 Section 1116.
  2. Assist in the development, revision and/or editing of the Family & Community Engagement Policy with, and distribute to, parents and families.
  3. Notifies parents and family members of the Family & Community Engagement Policy in an understandable and uniform format and to the extent practicable, provided in a language the parents and family members can understand.
  4. Ensures that the policy be made available to the local community and updated periodically to meet the changing needs of parents, family members and the school.
  5. Conducts, with the involvement of parents, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the family & community engagement program in improving the academic quality of the schools served under this part, including identifying barriers to greater participation of parents and family members.
  6. Uses the findings of such evaluation to design strategies for more effective parent and family engagement and to revise, if necessary, the Family & Community Engagement policies described in section 1116.
  7. Assists in Convening a Title I annual meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents and family members of participating children shall be invited.
  8. Offers a flexible number of meetings, such as meetings in the morning or evening.
  9. Assists in the development, revising and/or editing with parents and family members for all children served, a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, family members, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved academic achievement.
  10. Provides assistance to parents and family members of children served by the school, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the state’s academic content standards, state and local academic assessments.
  11. Provides assistance on how to monitor a child’s progress and work with educators to improve the achievement of their children.
  12. Provides materials and training to help parents and family members to work with improving their children’s achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parent and family engagement.
  13. Conducts an annual parent and family engagement survey to assess the needs of parents, family members and the community.
  14. Works as a team with Title I Family & Community Engagement Liaisons from other campuses to coordinate parent and family engagement sessions.
  15. Ensures that notifications for parent and family meetings are sent out in a timely manner.
  16. Implements a parent and family engagement program that creates partnerships among schools, parents, family members and community members.
  17. Facilitates sessions where all concerned, share ideas, support each other and work together as a team.
  18. Provides activities that empower parents and family members to become their own problem solvers.
  19. Attends scheduled meetings with Federal Programs Director
  20. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the Mercedes Independent School District.
  21. Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
  22. Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  23. Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, families, community members and any other stakeholders of the district.
  24. Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
  25. Develop a monthly Family & Community Engagement calendar of events and/or newsletter.
  26. Recruit and help parents and family members with the Parent Volunteer Program services at school.
  27. Make personal contacts and home visits.
  28. Maintain required records as outlined in the Title I, Part A program
  29. Provides professional development, tips and strategies to staff, parents and families.
  30. Prepare material needed and set up for parent and family training sessions.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

            Supervise parent volunteers.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

 

Lifting, stooping, bending, carrying materials/supplies as needed; frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
